FOR PRACTITIONERS OF ALL LEVELS. TAUGHT IN ENGLISH

A JOURNEY FROM THE OUTER TO THE INNER

Twisting - A gateway to Uddiyana Bandha

Saturday morning 10AM - 12.00 COMPLETE

Twisting poses can create a mental and spiritual cleanse and take us deeper into our asana practice. Twists can also ring out toxicity within our visceral body and teach us to stabilize our core muscles. By learning to twist from the inside out we can unstuck our digestive organs and begin to stimulate uddiyana bandha, which is known as the "upward lock." This lock is found in the navel region and can help to lift energy upwards by creating an internal flame which can create a deep transformative feeling as resistance and blocks get released. The result of this type of practice is a calmer, more stable energy that creates a space for a quieting pranayama practice. We will explore different types of twisting postures along with breath and core work that will transform your being and uplift your spirit.

From the ground up - Rooting and Rebounding

Saturday afternoon 2.00 PM - 4.00 PM

Finding our roots helps us to create a buoyant light feeling in our bodies. The purpose of learning arm balances is to educate us on how to engage our bandhas as we move through space. In this workshop, Joan will guide you through an exploration of understanding how to use your root lock to find lightness and ease in these challenging postures. We will work from the ground up and learn how to balance on our feet before taking flight on our hands. Handstands and arm balances will be the focus here and learning how to move in a connected way. When practiced in a supportive environment, arm balances can leave you feeling strong, confident and centered!

Finding your wheels - a gateway to finding sthira sukham

Sunday afternoon 2.00 PM - 5.00 PM

Understanding how to access the wheels that support our spine in yoga practice can help us to access our inner body and create stability and ease at the same time. The wheels run from the pelvic floor up through the neck and can help us access our bandhas and the three diagrams so that our breath can be efficient in challenging postures like backbends and inversions.  They also help us to access our core muscles while shedding awareness on how to mobilize on our thoracic spine and protect the vulnerability in our neck. In this workshop, we will discuss what the wheels are and learn to practice with the quality of sthira sukham asana before moving into an inversions and backbend practice. We will end with a pranayama practice, guiding us inside to what is known as our pranamaya kosha, the energetic body.
